PerCurra Care Professional Makes Life Sweeter for Client
Matt Sherwood is a team member at PerCurra Grantham and Newark. When one of the clients he supports told him that she had never had pancakes on Pancake Day, Matt sprung into action!

“I knew I would be caring for this lady in the evening on Shrove Tuesday so, when I did her shopping, I made sure we had the ingredients for pancakes,” said Matt. “However, on the day, I was really surprised to learn that she had never celebrated Pancake Day! I offered to make her some and, because she doesn’t have a particularly sweet tooth, I served them stuffed with fruit rather than jam or syrup. She thoroughly enjoyed them. This client likes me to sit and chat with her when she eats and we had a lovely time.
“This was actually about so much more than Pancake Day. This lady’s health had declined and we are finding ways to encourage her appetite and lift her spirits. Little treats like this are helping. We are also getting out of the house to go on little trips, for example to a cafe for a drink and cake.
A few months ago, during my visit on Remembrance Day she asked if we could watch the ceremony on TV together. It was something she always used to watch with her husband when he was alive. It was important because for a while, as she was recovering her health, she hadn’t even wanted to turn on the TV. Being able to make a positive difference to someone’s life is what makes this job so rewarding. Sometimes it’s little things that have a big impact.”
