Retirement Send Off for Long Service Care Assistant
8 October 2020
One of PerCurra’s first Care Assistants, described as ‘always happy and smiling’ has retired. David Icke is 76 years old and joined the company in 2008. This week he was given a ‘socially distanced’ send-off to celebrate his dedication and service.
Formally a painter and decorator, David started working as a carer in his 60’s. He said: “My sister was doing care work and she said how rewarding it was. I worked at a care home for two and a half years and then joined PerCurra as a Home Care Assistant. I’ve really enjoyed the variety of going to people’s homes, looking after them and making a difference to their day. I’ve made so many friends and it’s hard to walk away.”
PerCurra founder and Managing Director Gill Heppell describes David’s work ethic as ‘amazing’. She said: “Everybody loves him to bits. He is very caring and conscientious and never off sick. During the Covid situation we are making sure our clients and staff are safe; David said he would limit what he’s doing in his own life so he could be safe to go into work and not let his client down. We are all sad to see him go but wish him all the best in his retirement.”
During his time with PerCurra David has supported many clients but there is one that he has worked with for 10 years – John. His wife Marion commented; “ David deserves to be recognised for his long service as an exceptional carer. We have been so lucky to have been supported by him through difficult times and lots of challenges. He has always adapted to all the changes that John’s health throws up with a reassuring “can do” attitude. We will miss him enormously.”

Here we are – it's definitely winter and we are experiencing on and off freezing conditions. Typical British weather – damp and drizzly one day and hard frosts or snow the next. There are many things we can do to stay warm and well but this can be much harder for older and vulnerable people so they may need some help.
