Are you carrying out the required servicing & testing of lifting equipment in your home?

When to test - what are the regulations?

Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998, any lifting equipment, such as portable hoists, ceiling tracking hoists, gantry hoists and standing aids must be serviced and tested on a six-monthly basis. This also included checking the slings that are used.
Any required repairs must be carried out to ensure the equipment is safe to use. Equipment provided must also be “fit for purpose” taking into account the size of the Client and any other factors, such as their weight-bearing ability.
In addition to the statutory inspection and testing, the equipment must be inspected whenever it is used. These checks should look for damage to slings, including stitching that has come undone or fraying edges.

Here we are – it's definitely winter and we are experiencing on and off freezing conditions. Typical British weather – damp and drizzly one day and hard frosts or snow the next. There are many things we can do to stay warm and well but this can be much harder for older and vulnerable people so they may need some help.
